The UEFA Nation League winners were not happy with the skipper's snub.

The Portuguese national team has aimed a slight dig at the organisers of the FIFA Football Awards after Lionel Messi was adjudged The Best Men's Player of the Year ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Selecao took to Twitter to post an image of their 34-year-old skipper with the inscription "The Best Ever" following the release of the final results at Monday's ceremony held in Milan.

Messi's latest recognition is one that has sparked a lot of debate on social media with Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk having been tipped as the favorite among the trio. The confernment was expected to be a formality with the Dutchman already winning the UEFA Men's Player of the Year.

Upon the release of the voting results, Cristiano Ronaldo - who did not show up at the awards ceremony - was made to settle for the second runners-up spot. In wake of this, the five-time Ballon d'Or winners national team took to its official Twitter page to endorse him as the best of all-time despite the snub.

Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid star who won two domestic trophies with Juventus in his first season and the UEFA Nations League with Portugal earlier this summer, updated his fans with an Instagram post of him spending his pastime by reading a book. Despite not landing the ultimate accolade, the forward secured a spot in the FIFA FIFPro World XI.
