Liverpool sets new record with Chelsea win as Lampard attains unwanted milestone

September 22, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
A few milestones were achieved at Stamford Bridge for both the right and wrong reasons.

Liverpool continued its impressive start to the Premier League season by seeing off Chelsea in Sunday's clash at Stamford Bridge. The Reds managed to enter the record books once more thanks to the 2-1 victory.

Right from the onset of the proceeding, Jurgen Klopp's men flexed their technical and tactical superiority and were duly rewarded in no time. English full-back Trent-Alexander Arnold opened the scoring with a fantastic free-kick in the 14th-minute before Roberto Firmino doubled the advantage in the 30th minute.

Chelsea then instigated an unlikely comeback in the 71st minute after N'Golo Kante pulled on back but could not scrap the one goal deficit before the final whistle. With the Blues recording their second defeat of the Premier League campaign, Liverpool increased its winning run to six in six.

The Reds, as a result, have now become the first team in top-flight history to win their first six matches of a top-flight season in two consecutive seasons, according to Opta. They also reached the milestone of recording seven successive away victories.

On the other hand, the feat of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge landed Frank Lampard an unwanted milestone as the first manager to remain winless in his first 4 home matches in charge of the Blues.

The last time a scenario of sort ensued was when Bobby Campbell (W0-D3-L1) took over from John Hollins in 1988.
