Liverpool equal club record, De Bruyne enters the record books – Top stats from EPL Matchday 3

August 26, 2019 By Ali M.
Liverpool brushed Arsenal aside with ease and are now on the brink of history while Man City's win over Bournemouth saw two players reach amazing personal feats.

Round three of the Premier League has wrapped up and things are already taking shape in the English top-flight. Liverpool lead the standings with a perfect record after beating Arsenal 3-1 in their highly-anticipated Anfield showdown while Man City trail by only two points.

Elsewhere, both Tottenham and Man United were shocked at home, losing 1-0 and 2-1 to Newcastle and Crystal Palace respectively. Chelsea, on the other hand, registered their first win of the season but were made to work hard for it in a 3-2 win over Norwich.

Here are the standout stats from the Matchday 3 in the Premier League.

Aston Villa 2-0 Everton – Grealish puts an end to awful Premier League streak

Round three began with Aston Villa's showdown with Everton. The Villans were able to get their first win since securing promotion, beating the Toffees 2-0. This means Jack Grealish's record of 20 successive defeats in the English top-flight finally came to an end.

Man United 1-2 Palace – the Eagles' win ends 28-year wait

No one expected Crystal Palace to travel to Old Trafford and come away with all three points. After failing to win or even score in their opening two games, the Eagles were expected to lose. However, the 2-1 win means they have now put an end to their 28-year wait for a victory over the Red Devils.

Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle – Pochettino suffers defeat in milestone game

The 1-0 loss to Newcastle was an upset for Spurs. Tottenham were expected to beat Newcastle but instead fell to a home defeat. To make things worse, this disappointing result came in Pochettino's 500th game as manager. His 501st match will be the north London derby and the Argentine knows he must make amends.

Liverpool 3-1 Arsenal – The Reds equal club record in Anfield win

Liverpool brushed Arsenal aside with ease in their Anfield showdown, beating the Gunners 3-1. That was the Reds' 12 straight win in the Premier League, equaling their record of most consecutive wins set back in April-October 1990.

However, Van Dijk's record came to an end in that victory

Remember how no player dribbled past Van Dijk in a competitive game for quite a while? That record was put to an end by Arsenal's marquee signing Nicolas Pepe. The Ivorian beat the Dutch center-back early on in the game in what was a promising performance from the winger.

Bournemouth 1-3 Man City – two amazing stats from the Citizens' win

This game saw Sergio Aguero reach a remarkable milestone. The Argentine made it on the scoresheet twice, scoring a brace in the win over the Cherries. This took the attacker's tally to an impressive 400 career goals.

Kevin De Bruyne also reached a lovely feat, setting up the opening goal to become the quickest player in Premier League history to reach 50 assists. He beat out the previous record-holder Mesut Ozil.
