Casillas set to stage shocking comeback

Iker Casillas set to stage shocking comeback after heart attack

August 20, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The veteran goalkeeper has established a workout regime that could see him back on the pitch sooner than expected.

Back in May, Iker Casillas shocked the world of football when the news came out regarding his heart attack. Today, a report by Portuguese newspaper A Bola has revealed details on the player's return to the pitch, which would see the footballer call quits on his playing career on his own terms.

According to the report by the Portuguese publication, Casillas is still working out regularly since the episode that took place during one of Porto's training sessions. The former Real Madrid player is now working as a member of the team's coaching staff, but he was also registered as a player with the clear intention to make a comeback.

A Bola's report suggests that Casillas and the club have agreed to reveal the results of his medical tests in December, where a decision on his future will be made. Judging by the player's publications on social media, the 38-year-old is still clinging to the possibility of playing more games for the Dragons this season.

Porto hired Argentine goalie Agustín Marchesín as Casillas' replacement, and even though his performances with the Dragons have been impressive so far, the possibility of having the legendary Spanish goalie stepping up to defend the team's net seems to be closing in.

Since Casillas has not retired officially, this would be his 22th season as a professional. Will we see him defend Porto's net before the end of the year?
