The Brazilian left Stamford Bridge for a direct rival on deadline day, leaving everyone shocked.

One of the biggest surprises in the recent transfer window was David Luiz’s move from Chelsea to Arsenal. The Gunners were in search of a center-back throughout the summer window, which shut close on Thursday, but none expected them to sign an experienced defender from a direct rival.

With Chelsea likely to battle it out with the north London giants for a spot in the Champions League next season, many question whether selling the Brazilian to the Emirates Stadium side was a smart move. Several reports claimed the Selecao ace endured a falling out with new manager Frank Lampard but the Englishman has refuted those allegations.

The Blues legend spoke to the media ahead of his first Premier League game as a coach, opening up about what went down between him and Luiz in the build-up to his departure. Lampard revealed that nothing ugly went down between the manager and player before brushing his absence from a training session prior to his Stamford Bridge exit.

“It’s a position that I have a lot of competition. Everyone has to understand that,” he said, as per Goal.

“He has moved on and we wish him the absolute best because he has been a big part of our history.

“There wasn’t any strike. No fall-outs, just honest conversations.

“As a player, I want that as a manager, and I think I got that from David. Him not training was a decision I made as I felt that was best at the time.”

Nonetheless, it remains a surprise to many why Chelsea sold a player who was a key figure for them last season to a direct level. Given that Rudiger is recovering from injury, Lampard will have a few worries in defense for their opening game.

And what an opening game it is. The London giants will travel to Old Trafford to face Man United in the most anticipated game of Matchday 1 as Super Frank looks to make waves from day one.
