After losing the DFL-Supercup, Bayern Munich will be hoping to get their season back under track as they get underway in the first round of the DFB Pokal first round. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga campaign has gotten off on the right footing after beating die Roten 2-0 in the DFL-Supercup and they're in action this Friday against Uerdingen.

Stats and Facts: DFB-Pokal
- Bayern Munich are the defending champions. They beat RB Leipzig, who were featuring in the final for the first time, 3-0, in last season's final.
- 64 teams take part in this annual competition. 40 spots are given to teams from the Bundesliga (18), 2.Bundesliga (18), 3. Liga (top four).
- The other 24 spots are allocated as follows: 21 for the cup winners of regional football leagues (Verbandspokal), and then three more to associations with the most number of football teams (per population). Currently that means regions like Bavaria, Westphalia, and Lower Saxony get these additional spots - so Bayern Munich's region have an additional advantage. This year, Bavaria has three teams featuring - Bayern Munich plus two local sides: VfB Eichstätt and Würzburger Kickers (who won the local cup)
- The Olympiastadion has hosted the final since 1985 as it's viewed as a "neutral" ground - although it's been the home venue for Hertha Berlin since 1963
- However, they've never won a title. Their best result was a runners-up spot on several occasions, and impressively in 1993 they achieved this with their reserve team - which is the only time a reserve side has made it to the final
- Bayern Munich - not surprisingly - are the most successful side in this tournament, with 19 titles to date...
- ...but it's Fortuna Düsseldorf who have won the most consecutive tournament wins (18) between 1978 and 1981
