Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has addressed the persistent rumors surrounding his club's stalwart Paul Pogba. Contrary to popular claim of the 26-year-old midfielder nearing a switch to Real Madrid, the Norwegian manager insists that the Frenchman's future is at Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba has been the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer after telling the Red Devils that he seeks to continue his career elsewhere following last season's disappointment in the Premier League. The ex-Juventus star has been linked with a switch to Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane is believed to be keen on his recruitment in a bid to bolster his midfield.
The French manager's side is yet to make a formal approach for the World Cup winner, and previous reports have indicated that Manchester United is not interested in discussing the player's sale for any amount. With significant progress yet to be made, Paul Pogba fueled the rumors by being amiss when Manchester United took on AC Milan in its final preseason friendly.
News that emerged on the back of the former Red Devils academy graduate's no-show at Cardiff on Saturday stated that the player was eager to push through a last minute transfer to Madrid by boycotting games. However, Solskjaer seemed unperturbed by the concerns as he strongly believes that his side's prize asset will be there for the duration of the 2019/2020 season.
"Yeah, no doubts at all," Solskjaer stated about Pogba staying at the club.
"He'll probably be back early on next week training, yeah, it's not an injury, it's just some pain, he's not injured but I wasn't going to risk anything this weekend. He should be okay for Chelsea."
Meanwhile, the Frenchman had previously been tipped as a potential captain for Manchester United ahead of the new season and, following the Red Devils' win over AC Milan, Solskjaer subsequently revealed that Ashley Young will rather be honored with the armband. Against the Rossoneri, David De Gea was done the honors of being the skipper inside the Principality Stadium despite the Englishman's introduction into the fray in the second half.
"David's obviously in contention, [but] Ash, when he's on the pitch, will carry the armband," Solskjaer added.
"When Ash starts, he'll be carrying the armband."
