Zlatan faces MLS ban for elbowing LAFC's El Monir in El Trafico [VIDEO]

The Swedish striker risks getting another ban from the league chiefs.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic stole the show in Friday's El Trafico but the Swedish international could face serious sanctions for an incident involving him and Los Angeles FC's Mohamed El Monir. A video that has emerged shows the 37-year-old striker elbowing the defender in the face prior to helping his team secure a 3-2 victory in the classic encounter.

Zlatan, who was a tad outspoken in the buildup to the derby, stole the spotlight by grabbing a hattrick, affirming his claim that he was the best player in the MLS ahead of rival Carlos Vela. However, a series breakouts involving the former Manchester United star marred proceedings with the most notable one being the second-half clash with Mohamed El-Monir - an incident which has left the player facing surgery.

A footage that has emerged shows the LA Galaxy skipper taking quick glances at the Libyan defender's position before hitting him the face with his elbow in an aerial challenge. The incident which has left the full back with a facial fracture was allegedly a retributory act by Zlatan after the player evaded a booking for tackle on Galaxy's Joe Corona a few minutes earlier.

Following the final whistle, the event sparked an altercation involving the Swedish striker and the LAFC bench led by goalkeeper coach Zak Abdel. In the heat of the moment, the former reportedly shouted: "Go home, you little b**** - Go home" at his aggressor.

Amro Tarek of New York Red Bulls, a colleague and former teammate of El-Monir at Orlando City, has since shared X-Ray images of the left-back's facial fracture on Twitter, citing the event as "just unbelievable". A dent has been created on the side of El-Monir's face and the defender is set to undergo surgery for an apparent zygomatic fracture.

Meanwhile, the MLS disciplinary committee are now believed to be investigating the incident and Zlatan risks getting another ban having already been suspended by the league for an incident involving New York City FC 'keeper Sean Johnson in May.
