Spanish FA to investigate Griezmann transfer

Spanish FA to investigate Griezmann's Barca transfer after Atletico complaint

July 20, 2019 By Ali M.
His former employers believe the Blaugrana must pay the player's previous release clause, which stood at $225M.

Last Friday, Barcelona celebrated the official signing of Antoine Griezmann. Today, the Blaugrana are facing an investigation into their acquisition of the Frenchman superstar.

As reported by Iusport (via AS), The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has opened proceedings into the Liga champions regarding the addition of the World Cup winner. This all stems from allegations made by the attacker's former employers, Atletico Madrid.

The Catalan giants revealed via their official website that the club paid $135M for 28-year-old. However, immediately after, Los Rojiblancos announced that they are demanding $225M from Barcelona as they accuse them of reaching an agreement with the player back in March before his release clause dropped.

The Madrid heavyweights took their fight to the RFEF. Prior to going to the Spanish FA, Atletico even launched a complaint regarding Barcelona and Griezmann to FIFA.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu addressed the accusations recently. According to the Camp Nou official, Cerezo and Co. have no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the Catalan giants.

"We've spoken with them and they don't have evidence of anything," he said. "But I understand that they have to defend their interests, as we do.

"We've been chatting with their president, Enrique Cerezo, and we will see how things evolve, but I don't think they can do anything."
