Done Deal: Juventus signs De Ligt; date for medicals revealed

July 15, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Juventus and Ajax have finally reached an agreement for the transfer of the Dutch youngster.

After all was said and done, Matthijs de Ligt has opted for a move to Serie A giants Juventus. The 19-year-old Dutch defender's long standing transfer saga has finally been concluded after completing a switch to the Turin outfit.

In months gone by, the teenage centre back was heavily linked with moves to almost all the top European clubs having excelled for Ajax last season. Initial claims suggested that Barcelona was keen on completing a deal for the youngster but the Catalans' hesitance saw new suitors emerge. Paris Saint-Germain was reportedly a front-runner in the pursuit for the De Ligt at a point while Manchester United, Liverpool and Bayern Munich were all seemingly monitoring the player's situation.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu made a last-ditch attempt to sign the Netherlands' international. However, all attempts were rendered futile despite a rumored phone call conversation between the pair as the player had already agreed personal terms with Juventus.

As per transfer gurus Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, a switch to the Old Ladies has finally been completed and the Dutchman is set to arrive in Turin on Tuesday for his medicals on Wednesday ahead of his transfer. Ajax will be paid €75 million, making Matthijs de Ligt the most expensive defender signed by an Italian club.

De Ligt's initial contract runs until 2024.
