Senegal finished as runners-up in Group C behind Morocco with six points. The Teranga Lions beat Tanzania 2-0 in their opening match before losing 1-0 to the Atlas Lions. They finished the group stage campaign with a win over Kenya and subsequently defeated Uganda 1-0 in a keenly contest Round of 16 encounter.
On the other hand, Benin endured a tough test in its run-in to the last eight. The Squirrels featured in Group F alongside defending champions Cameroon, Ghana and Guinea-Bissau. They qualified to the knockout phase on the merit of finishing as one of the best third-placed teams having drawn in all their three group matches.
Benin then set-up a date with Morocco and surprisingly eliminated the North Africans via penalty shootouts after drawing the game 1-1.

Senegal and Benin have met six times in the past. The former dominates in number of wins with four and has been defeated on just one occasion against the Squirrels.
Edouard Mendy has been ruled out completely with an injury while Salif Sané remains a doubt for Senegal. Both Badou Ndiaye and Kalidou Koulibaly are a bookiing away from suspension although their side currently has no player ineligible to play in the last eight encounter.
For Benin Steven Mounie should return to the starting lineup after missing the last 16 matchup with Morocco through suspension. Khaled Adenon will not be available for selection after being sent off in the shock last-16 victory over Morocco.
Fabien Farnolle also remains a doubt as he is yet to reach full fitness.
