Another one for the skipper!

United States Women's national team skipper Megan Rapinoe has once again landed herself in the history books of the FIFA Women's World Cup with her goal against Netherlands.

The 34-year-old winger broke the deadlock in the keenly contested encounter whose first half ended in stalemate following top class performances by the goalkeepers on both sides. The opportunity presented itself after a VAR review confirmed a foul on Alex Morgan inside the Dutch penalty area in the 60th minute.

Rapinoe subsequently stepped up to convert the spot-kick, ensuring a 100 percent scoring record in all the three attempts she has had at the tournament so far. As a result, she tied with teammate Alex Morgan as the tournament's top scorer with six goals.

The penalty awarded the USWNT was the second-ever recorded in the history of the FIFA Women's World Cup final, and the first to have been scored considering Brazil's Marta missed the first time around.

The goal also took USA's tally in the 2019 campaign 25 goals. Lavelle's second for the Stars and Stripes in the 69th minute ensured that they now bear the record for the most goals scored at a tournament with 26.
