Things escalated between the two South American footballers for what seems to be a ridiculous reason.

The last game of the 2019 Copa América for Argentina and Chile will have serious repercussions for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, since Gary Medel and Lionel Messi were sent off after a clash near the goal line.

Argentina had taken a two-goal lead after 22 minutes, and things seemed to be at ease between both South American sides. Just when the clock hit 37 minutes, Lionel Messi tried to strip away a ball from Gary Medel, but a stamp on Medel's ankle by Messi was not overlooked by Medel and all hell broke loose.

The Chilean defender lost the plot and started shoving Messi, who stood still while trying to stand Medel's "attack". Medel charged furiously as Messi tried to hold on to him by the back of the neck. Referee Mario Díaz had enough from both men and decided to send off both footballers.

While some fans believe that both men were sent off correctly, Messi's supporters were appalled by this decision. Have a look at the footage and decide which side are you with. (Image might be geo-restricted).
