Real Madrid traces plan to sign Mbappé

Real Madrid's alleged timeline to sign Kylian Mbappé revealed

June 25, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The French ace has been linked with an exit from PSG this summer, with Real Madrid being his alleged destination.

Real Madrid has concocted a plan to land what would be one major signing for them: Kylian Mbappé. In what has been quite a busy summer for Los Blancos, fans seem eager to see Florentino Pérez adding the French superstar to their squad, and while it's still a possibility, the player's transfer to the Spanish capital might be delayed for a bit of time.

According to a report by Marca, both Zinedine Zidane and Florentino Pérez have agreed to pursue Mbappé's signing, but both men have reached two conditions to make it happen.

The first condition to see Mbappé join the Spanish giants has to do with the current overbooking in Real Madrid's locker room. In order to sign the Frenchman, Real Madrid needs to sell some of the 14 players that have been deemed surplus to their requirements. Keylor Navas, James Rodríguez, Isco and Gareth Bale seem to be locks in that department, but their transfers have been delayed due to the team's huge wage demands.

To make matters worse, Real Madrid has already spent over $300M in signings, and in order to avoid a Financial Fair Play sanction, the team must sell some of their players for at least $200M to comply with UEFA's FFP rules. That fact brings us to the second condition stated by Pérez and Zidane.

Both men have agreed on a strategic signing such as Mbappé's, but they have also stated that it will take a bit more patience to see Mbappé dressed in white. Hence, Florentino Pérez has targeted the summer of 2020 to materialize the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner's signing. Real Madrid's president is not keen on damaging the good relationship between Los Blancos and PSG, which will see him making a move for the Frenchman only after PSG's approval.
