Ahead of AFCON 2019, Live Soccer TV takes a look at Cameroon, who are led by none other than a legendary footballing icon. But will they be able to defend their title?

What is Cameroon's history in the AFCON?

A five-time winner of the AFCON, Cameroon come into this tournament as the defending champions. Les Lions Indomptables will be making their 19th appearance this summer, after finishing joint-tied on points with Morocco in Group B, but had to settle for second due to their inferior head-to-head record.

Cameroon have had their fair share of ups and downs. After winning back to back titles at the start of the 21st century, they failed to make it past the quarter-finals stage in their next two tournaments. They then bounced back by securing a runners-up spot at the 2008 edition of this competition staged in Ghana, but then missed out on the 2012 and 2013 versions before crashing out in the group stage in 2015.

However, they seem to have put that firmly behind them as they made it a fifth title two years ago - all without losing a single game - and with some bright young talents in their squad, plus a footballing legend on the bench, Cameroon certainly will have high hopes for dominating in Egypt this summer.

What is Cameroon's full squad list for the 2019 AFCON?

Goalkeepers: Andre Onana (Ajax), Fabrice Ondoa (Ostend), Carlos Kameni (Fenerbahce)

Defenders: Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui (Slavia Prague), Dawa Tchakonte (Mariupol), Banana Yaya (Panionios), Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo (Montpellier), Gaetan Bong (Brighton), Collins Fai (Standard Liege), Jean Armel Kana-Biyik (Kayserispor)

Midfielders: Arnaud Djoum (Hearts), Wilfrid Kaptoum (Betis Deportivo Balompie), Pierre Kunde Malong (Mainz), Georges Mandjeck (Maccabi Haifa)

Forwards: Karl Toko Ekambi (Villareal), Clinton Njie (Marseille), Joel Tagueu (Maritimo), Jacques Zoua (Astra), Stephane Bahoken (Angers), Christian Bassogog (Henan), Olivier Boumal (Panionos), Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting (PSG), Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Fulham)

Who are the key players to watch for Cameroon at the 2019 AFCON?

The defending champs will face some stiff competition, but Cameroon have some notable players in their ranks. One that will stand out thanks to his great season with Ajax is none other than Andre Onana, who was especially crucial for his side's amazing run all the way to the semi-finals of this past season's Champions League. If he can have a big tournament and marshall his defense, Cameroon could certainly challenge the likes of Senegal, hosts Egypt, and Ghana for the coveted title.

Who is Cameroon's coach?

Clarence Seedorf. Does that name ring a bell? Well, it certainly as he is among the finest players ever to pull on the famous Oranje jersey. For the vast majority of AC Milan fans who were born before the last decade, they all fondly remember his exploits as the Rossoneri enjoyed a golden age in the early and mid noughties, namely winning the last of their two Champions League titles.

Ajax supporters certainly appreciate Seedorf as well, as he was part of the team that famously won the Champions League in 1995 and two back-to-back league titles in 1994 and 1995. However, this will be his first major international tournament, and he will know that the pressure and expectations are high on him to help Cameroon successfully defend their trophy.

What are the odds of Cameroon winning the 2019 AFCON?

To win back-to-back titles is no easy feat, but Cameroon have done it before - in 2000 and 2002 - so they could certainly do it again. Ghana, who are also in the same quartet, will be the side most expected to challenge Seedorf's side for top spot in their group - and could potentially meet them once again in the latter stages of the tournament. Overall, Cameroon do have a solid squad, and Seedorf will be hoping to make a name for himself after his rather disappointing experience with former club AC Milan, who sacked him despite stringing together a strong patch of results.
