Mourinho: Pogba isn't United's biggest problem

Mourinho gives honest assessment on Pogba and Man United's biggest problems

May 15, 2019 By Ali M.
The Special One was asked if the Frenchman is the main cause of the Red Devils' demise. Here's what he had to say.

Given Man United's horrid form towards the end of the season, the club's shortcomings have come under the radar once more. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enjoyed a terrific start to life at Old Trafford before things went south in the last two months.

Having won only twice since March 19, a run of eight defeats in 12 games in all competitions, the focus has now shifted back to Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese did not shy away from publicly criticizing the club and its players during his reign at the Theatre of Dreams and has thus been asked for his opinion on the underlying problem at the Theatre of Dreams.

Many felt it was the Portuguese gaffer, but with the Special One gone, Man United return to mediocrity after that honeymoon spell. The player have taken the heat for their poor attitude and work ethics, namely Paul Pogba, but Mourinho has surprisingly leaped to his defense.

The manager did not see eye-to-eye with the Frenchman after several bust-ups with the World Cup winner but he has dismissed claims that the midfielder is the biggest problem at Old Trafford. Speaking to L'Equipe on this matter, the tactician said:

"The problems are there, you can say that these are the players, the organization, the ambition, I only say that I cannot say yes when you ask if Paul was the only one responsible."

Jose added: "I said nine or 10 months ago that after winning eight championships, finishing second with United may have been my greatest achievement. Now people understand.

"I do not always do my analysis publicly on Manchester United. I do not want to talk about it and I have the feeling that I do not need to speak, that time gives explanations.

"About United, I want to say only two things: One is that time has spoken. Two is that the problems are still there."

With Pogba tipped to leave the Premier League giant after their failure to secure Champions League football, Solskjaer will have his hands full once the transfer window opens. The Norwegian has already admitted that ins and outs will occur this summer but only time will reveal whether the former Juventus ace is on that list.
