The Manchester United star's apparent switch to the Spanish outfit is being held up by his wage demand.

Manchester United star Paul Pogba might have to wait for his dream move to Real Madrid with the Spanish club refusing to budge to his huge wage demand, reports from France suggest. Negotiations between the Frenchman's entourage and Los Blancos have seemingly stalled in recent times as the latter is adamant to match the £13 million annual salary being demanded by the player.

According to L'Equipe, although the 26-year-old World Cup winner remains a top transfer target for Real Madrid, the fee he is asking for does not fit the wage structure at the Spanish club. A source at the club reportedly told the French news outlet that 'A Neymar or an [Kylian] Mbappe can upon entry be the highest paid player in the squad, but not a Pogba.'

At the moment, Pogba is on a £15.08 million-a-year salary at Manchester United. Despite his current contract with the Old Trafford outfit running until 2021, speculations suggest that the French midfielder might be among a host of players to be sold by the Premiership club this summer.

In a season where the Red Devils finished sixth on the league table, the former Juventus star emerged as the club's top scorer and assist leader with 13 goals and nine assists respectively. However, he has often been singled out for criticism amid the struggles of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer side.

Following the defeat to Cardiff City on Sunday, the midfielder was subjected to abuse by a section of the Manchester United fans who suggested that the player be sold this summer.
