Manchester Derby heats up hours before kick-off

Manchester Derby - Guardiola and Solskjaer 'trade blows' ahead of crunch tie

April 23, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
Solskjaer's words earlier today were fiercely replied by Guardiola, making expectations rise ahead of what could be a key game in the EPL title race.

The stakes are as high as ever between Manchester United and Manchester City. The Red Devils could miss out of the top four if they lose, while the Citizens could see their title chances fade away if they drop points. With that in mind, both coaches shared their views on what could go down on Wednesday between them, and needless to say, neither of them was full of praise for their rival.

It all began during Man United's press conference, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer slamming Manchester City's pressure tactics which, according to the Norwegian boss, tend to be a bit dirty.

"When we win the ball we have got to be ready for their aggression because they will snap at your ankles and heels and kick you. They will not allow us easy counter-attacking. There will be fouls, no doubt about it. They will be stopping us as high as they can, I think,"Solskjaer said.

But that was not the only thing Solskjaer said about Wednesday's rivals, since the former striker believes that such a stance helps Pep's crew when refs make a call on when to book them and when they shouldn't.

"You don't get the yellow cards (for that), do you?' the Norwegian said. But that's just because they commit so many players forward and you can clearly see that they've got them in that mould of trying to win the ball back, and they do make fouls," the Red Devils' boss added.

Needless to say, Guardiola got word of Solskjaer's claims in his pre-match presser, and he did not have flattering words for the Norwegian boss, while trying to find the real reasons for his claims.

Did he say that? So we are going to make fouls on them? I don't like it (Solskjaer's comments). I don't like it. No. My team is not built for that, not at all," a visibly upset Guardiola said.

Replying to a question by a journalist, Pep said that Solskjaer's intention is none other than having an influence on Wednesday's refs.

"That's the reason why, of course. I don't think (it will succeed) because we don't do that. The players can talk about it better than me, the players I had at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and here," Guardiola concluded.
