Man Utd player tops list of EPL flops

Man United footballer tops list of 2018-19 Premier League flops

April 23, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
There were some players that failed to make an impact for their teams...and then there were these ones.

When the end of each season approaches, fans and experts look back to determine who made it and who failed in their attempt to impress them. The latter is always easier, since stats and facts support most claims made by those fractions of the footballing world, and this time, we have to agree on the outcome.

Earlier today, The Athlete's Hub shared its ranking of the worst signings of the 2018-19 season. Big names, high-priced transfers, loan transfers, and general flops were included in this 12-men shortlist, which we will break down in the next few lines.

Number 12 on this list is Yerry Mina. The former Blaugrana man saw his time on the pitch limited by a number of injuries, but he failed to impress when he was fit to play. Everton's $33M investment has hardly paid off, with the Colombian defender racking up just 12 Premier League starts.

Mina has not been the same player that dazzled in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

We get to Number 10 on the list to find Denis Suárez. Arsenal's loan bet for the former Blaugrana midfielder did not go as planned, with the footballer earning just 95 minutes of playing time. His $22M option to make the deal permanent seems to be excessive if you consider his poor contribution to the team.

Arsenal has already stated that Suárez will not continue with the club next season.

Number 9 on this list is the world's most-expensive goalkeeper, Chelsea's Kepa Arrizabalaga. The $80M fee paid by the Blues to Athletic Club hasn't exactly paid off, as the shot-stopper has conceded 38 goals in 34 EPL games. Added to that, his first season with the Blues will be remembered by his row against Maurizio Sarri in the Carabao Cup final.

Kepa's incident with his boss during the Carabao Cup final was one of the most embarrassing moments of the 2018-19 season.

The only free transfer in this list can be found at Number 3, with Jack Wilshere disappointing West Ham fans in spectacular fashion. Imagine playing the first four games of a season and watch your new team lose all of them...well, that happened to Wilshere, who's injury-plagued season has been far from a success with the Hammers.

Wilshere returned to the pitch after a four-month spell on the sidelines due to injury.

The worst 2018-19 Premier League transfer goes to Manchester United, who paid over $52M to sign Fred as their biggest summer deal. The midfielder has only played 16 games for Manchester United (12 as a starter), with only one goal and one assist to his name.

Fred's poor stats don't justify his signing with the Red Devils.

Here's the full list of Premier League transfer flops.
