Real Madrid names Gareth Bale's asking price

Real Madrid names Gareth Bale's price tag ahead of rumored summer exit

April 12, 2019 By Ali M.
The Welshman appears destined to leave Spain this summer, with a move back to England looking likely.

Clubs interested in Gareth Bale now know what they must pay to land the Welshman. With the Real Madrid attacker looking more and more likely to leave Spain, his employers have named their price tag.

The former Tottenham star was tipped to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo this season but things have gone from bad to worse for him this campaign. From injuries to poor form, the 29-year-old is no longer loved by the Bernabeu crowd and constantly gets booed by them.

He has spent six seasons in Madrid and has won the Champions League in all but two of the years he spent with Los Blancos. Despite this, his time in La Liga appears set to end this summer.

AS reported earlier that José Angel Sánchez met with Bale's agent to inform them that he is not in the club's plans for next season and will be allowed to join a club of his choosing, but for the right price. The Spanish news outlet now claims that the Spanish giant will demand $148M.

Real Madrid believes this is a fair valuation given the amount the likes of Coutinho, Dembele, and Mbappe went for. Furthermore, they are confident that one of England's top six sides will be able to cough up that amount but the player's high wages could be a roadblock.

The Welshman pockets $34M per year before tax which could be a difficult sum to match on top of his high transfer fee. As a result, Los Merengues are exploring the option of a player-plus-cash move which could see them land Paul Pogba, should Bale opt for Old Trafford, or Christian Eriksen, should the former Spurs ace make a return to north London.
