The Spanish striker will even start the 2019-20 season on the sidelines due to the incident with ref Gil Manzano.

Brazilian-born striker Diego Costa asked for mercy from the Spanish league's disciplinary committee, but his request was not granted by the Spanish execs who examined his case, as he was handed an eight-match ban, following the incident between himself and referee Gil Manzano.

In case you don't remember what happened, Manzano decided to send off Costa for insulting him after the ref snubbed Costa's foul claims. Costa then proceeded to yell at the ref "Me cago en tu puta madre", which properly translates to "I s**t on your bi**h of a mother!"

Today, the La Liga Disciplinary Committee ruled that Costa should be out for the rest of the 2018-19 La Liga season after being slammed with an eight-match ban. Costa was handed four games for his explicit language against the ref, while the other four games came after the striker "repeatedly" grabbed Manzano's arm while trying to convince him not to book Diego Godín and José María Giménez.

Atlético will file an appeal to this ban, but given the amount of time the disciplinary board took to punish Costa, their hopes for success seem to be slim.

Los Colchoneros are still trying to finish their run in La Liga in second place, with Real Madrid two points behind them. Costa will now miss the end of the season and the first game of the 2019-20 campaign, that is, if he keeps playing for Atlético next year.
