The overhaul promised by Bayern execs has begun, and Atlético Madrid's footballer is the first signing for the 2019-20 season.

World of football beware: Bayern München is ready to splash cash in 2019.

Contrary to their transfer policy, the Bavarian side has announced that they will try to keep up with modern times and spend big during the upcoming transfer window. Today's move is the first of many expected by Die Roten, as they have confirmed the signing of 2018 World Cup champion Lucas Hernández.

The French defender will join the Bavarian side once the current season comes to an end. The current Bundesliga leaders paid the buyout clause of €80M (some $90M) included in the player's deal with Los Colchoneros. Nevertheless, the deal will have it's fair share of controversy.

Die Roten have announced that the player will have to undergo corrective surgery to his right knee, an injury that has kept him on the sidelines since February. This will come as a surprise to some, since the player may not recover to start the 2019-20 season with the club.

Here's the official announcement made public on Bayern's Twitter feed.

Bayern revealed that Hernández's deal will conclude in the 2023-24 season. Hernández will earn €13M ($14.6M) per season.
