Current form: Bayern vs Liverpool

Bayern have now overtaken Borussia Dortmund in the race for the Bundesliga title. At the end of last year, die Schwarzgelben were nearly ten points ahead of die Roten, and it seemed like finally, someone other than Bayern were looking set to actually end the one-horse race in Germany. However, since the start of 2019, Dortmund have been slipping up left and right, which has allowed the Bavarian titans to force their way back into contention and now they have surged back up the table to rise into top spot, ahead of Dortmund on goal difference.

It's a great outcome for Bayern fans, but a disappointing one certainly for Dortmund supporters and Bundesliga neutrals, who were hoping to see some surprises in the league this time around. However, Bayern's focus is to finally get their hands on the Champions League, which has eluded them since 2013, and Niko Kovac would naturally do wonders to alleviate some of the pressure on him should he manage to lead die Roten to European glory this season.

They will face a tough task, though, as they will be taking on Liverpool at the Allianz Arena, and the Reds are led by none other than Jurgen Klopp, who was in charge of that Dortmund side who lost 2-1 in the 2013 Champions League final to Bayern six years ago.

Liverpool, meanwhile, sit in second spot in the league after also slipping up in recent weeks, and now are one point behind Manchester City. The Reds come into this game having beaten Burnley over the weekend and will be hoping that their excellent historical record against Bayern (they have lost just one of their last eight meetings with die Roten in European competition) will be enough to see them through to the quarter-finals.

Team news: Bayern vs Liverpool

Bayern: Both Joshua Kimmich and Thomas Muller are suspended for this match. Corentin Tolisso is out with an injury, while Arjen Robben, who has consistently struggled with injuries for years, is a major doubt due to yet another fitness problem. However, both David Alaba and Kingsley Coman have reportedly recovered and could feature in some capacity here.

Liverpool: Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, and Naby Keita are all out with injuries, but Andy Robertson will have to be very careful here as another booking could see him miss the quarter-finals if Liverpool beat Bayern tonight.
