Paris Saint-Germain hit with double injury blow

PSG hit with double injury blow ahead of crucial Manchester United clash

February 10, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The days ahead could be trying for the Parisians.

Paris Saint-Germain is currently sweating over the fitness of both Edinson Cavani and Thomas Meunier ahead of the Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie with Manchester United. On Sunday, the Ligue 1 outfit revealed the extent of the former's injury after he was subbed off in Saturday's 1-0 win over Bordeaux.

Cavani scored the game's only goal via a spot-kick but was subbed off before the end of the proceeding following what was later revealed as an injury to his hip. In the medical update, PSG failed to state the length of Cavani's unavailability and cited that his return "will depend on the evolution of the injury over the coming days."

The Parisians revealed in a subsequent statement that full-back Thomas Meunier has sustained a concussion and, as a result, will not be included in the squad to take on Manchester United on Tuesday. The statement read: "Thomas Meunier's neurological examination confirmed a slight concussion. Thomas will be unavailable until his next neurological consultation at the end of the week."

With both players ruled out of the upcoming clash, Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel is faced with a massive selection dilemma.

"There's no good news for Edi this morning. He had some tests and there will be more to come," he told Telefoot on Sunday.

"My feeling is that it's going to be very difficult for him to play. We have to wait a little bit more, but the club will communicate on this later today. I think the news will not be very good."

PSG's talisman Neymar Jr is already sidelined for the clash with an injury to his foot while Marco Verrati recently returned from a spell on the treatment table. Relatively, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United will approach the encounter without any notable injured personal ahead of Tuesday's meeting.
