The German midfielder will be out of action for some time.

Real Madrid has been hit dealt another massive blow with the club confirming Toni Kroos' injury. A statement released by the Spanish heavyweights on Monday revealed that the 29 years old German midfielder has suffered a tear in his adductor muscle.

Toni Kroos was involved in Sunday's game which saw Real Madrid fall to Real Sociedad at home in La Liga for the first time in 15 years. Following the substitution of Casemiro in the second half, the former Bayern Munich ace was conferred a deeper role while his side chased a comeback.

However, it remains unclear at what point he picked up the injury although he was replaced by Dani Ceballos with 10 minutes of the proceeding left to be played. The statement released by Real Madrid on Monday reads as follows: "Following tests carried out on our player Toni Kroos today by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a grade 2 tear of the adductor muscle in his left leg. His recovery will be monitored."

Kroos joins Gareth Bale on the injured player list with the Welshman also sustained one during last Thursday's draw with Villarreal. Addressing a news conference on Saturday ahead of the clash with Sociedad, Santiago Solari revealed that Bale's injury is not too serious. As a result, his side is optimistic about the winger's imminent return.

Kroos, on the other hand, is expected to be out of action for at least five to six weeks. The news certainly comes at the worst possible time for Real Madrid with the capital club looking to review its lackluster run in La Liga this season.

Following the defeat to Sociedad on Sunday, the Merengues momentarily sits in the fifth position with 30 points – 10 points off table-toppers Barcelona and a point adrift fourth-placed Deportivo Alaves.
