The Real Madrid head coach claims his side were denied a lot of good calls in Sunday's loss to Sociedad.

A rather controversial game on Sunday saw Real Madrid suffer its first La Liga defeat to Real Sociedad at home in 15 years. Los Blancos was made to chase a comeback in the early minutes of the game after Willian Jose converted a spot-kick which resulted from Casemiro's tackle on Merino inside the penalty area.

Real Madrid had the opportunity to equalize the third-minute opener but for some poor finishing mixed with good defending on the part of the visitors. The European champions night then headed for the south with Lucas Vazquez receiving his marching orders following a second booking after the break.

However, Solari's handicapped men were somehow denied the opportunity to instigate a dramatic comeback after the referee and VAR failed to spot what appears to be a genuine penalty claim by Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian youngster, after maneuvering his way into the Sociedad penalty area, had his foot caught by a goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli who seemingly failed to get his hand on to the ball.

Madrid's ill-fortune compounded with substitute Ruben Pardo stealing all the three points for the visitors with his 83rd-minute strike. Speaking to Movistar after the end of the proceeding, head coach of the Merengues Santiago Solari expressed his frustration about the missed penalty call.

"Everything went against us.

"We did not get into the game well, we had an unfortunate move in the second minute.

"We did everything to turn it around and did not get any goal. We have had chances, but did not put them in. "And then there was that play that nobody understood why it didn't end with a penalty. It seems to me like a textbook penalty.

"We have not spoken with the referees," he added.

"There are plays that seem obvious in real time, but we believe VAR technology is there to check.

"We are all humans and make mistakes, but if you do not check to correct the mistake, it is difficult to understand."

Real Madrid now trails leader Barcelona by 10 points after 18 games and have dropped to the fifth position with 30 points.
