Pogba matches Rooney's feat with first half brace against Bournemouth

December 30, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Another Manchester United game, another longstanding milestone reached.

Paul Pogba stands among a host of Manchester United players who have seemingly found their mojo under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and he once again lived up to the billing with a superb performance against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Frenchman set the ball rolling for his side's cruise to victory by scoring the opening goal inside the first five minutes. The ex-Juventus star simply tapped home a low cross from Marcus Rashford who had skillfully beat off two Bournemouth defender on the right flank.

Pogba then added his second in the 33rd minutes by heading home a cross from Ander Herrera. This subsequently took his goal tally for the ongoing league campaign to seven in 16 starts.

Having bagged a double in the previous game in which Manchester United ran off with an emphatic 5-1 win over Huddersfield, Paul Pogba became the first player since Wayne Rooney to score twice in succession for Manchester United in the Premier League. The former Red Devils' striker achieved his feat back in December 2012.

Pogba's rejuvenation under Solskjaer cannot be overemphasized with the player grabbing four goals in three Premier League appearances. In contrast, the midfielder managed just three in 14 league outings under Jose Mourinho this season.

According to Opta, December 2018 has also been the 25-year-old Frenchman's best-ever month in top-flight league football. The midfielder registered four goals and three assists for Manchester United in this month alone.
