The Norwegian manager is reportedly not allowed to sign any player permanently in January.

Manchester United's current interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not be allowed by the club to sign any player permanently in the winter transfer window, according to reports. The 45-year-old manager who replaced Jose Mourinho over a week ago led the Red Devils to thump Cardiff City 5-1 at Old Trafford in his first game in charge.

While the former striker has iterated the need for his players to adopt the club's attacking philosophy once again, fans have highlighted the essence for reinforcements up front. Speculations in recent times suggested that Manchester United has already submitted a bid to sign Juventus' Douglas Costa as it aims to strengthen the right side of its attack. The fee for the 28-year-old is rumored to be in the region of 50 million pounds.

However, the latest report by U.K tabloid Mirror rebuts the claim of any incoming permanent deals. According to the publication, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was told prior to being appointed that he will only be allowed to sign players on loan. This comes in wake of Manchester United's decision to make a permanent managerial appointment next summer.

Per Mirror, the objective is to amass enough funds to be spent by whoever will take over the club at the start of the 2019/2020 season. Solskjaer himself has been tipped as one who could make the managerial role his own should he at least fire the Red Devils to a Top 4 finish – a feat that looks almost improbable considering the form of their other competitors.
