The chance to sign the World Cup winner in January has emerged as Los Blancos are on the lookout for Modric's successor.

Could Real Madrid land a talented attacking midfielder in January? It is possible, if Marca's latest report is anything to go by, as Los Blancos have reportedly been offered a highly-sought after player.

According to the Spanish outlet, that man is Nebil Fekir. The Frenchman had been in a summer transfer saga which saw him come inches away from joining Liverpool but ended up staying in Lyon.

However, this has not stopped the rumors of an exit from piling up. His French employers are worried that he will not sign a new deal, with his current one expiring in 2020. As a result, they might be forced to sell him in January or next summer.

Real Madrid is thus exploring the option of adding him to their squad. Barcelona had also been linked with the World Cup winner but their focus has shifted elsewhere which could boost Los Merengues' odds.

Solari's side is on the lookout for an attacking midfielder. Their goal is to find a successor to Luka Modric, who despite winning the Ballon d'Or, hasn't begun the season well and, at the age of 33, could be nearing the end.

However, the recently-crowned FIFA Club World Cup champion is focused on landing Exequiel Palacios from River Plate first. This deal grows trickier by the day and thus requires the Spanish giant's immediate attention.

As for Lyon, they will not want to lose their talented captain in the middle of the season. They have a 15-point gap to overturn if they wish to beat PSG to the French top-flight title and will need to follow in the footsteps of Roma if they wish to pull off a shocker and eliminate Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16. Fekir will be needed for both tasks.
