Claudio Ranieri is no more AS Roma’s coach. The ex-Chelsea and Juve coach has resigned only to raise rumours about Carlo Ancelotti taking over at the Stadio Olimpico soon.
Four consecutive defeats in all competitions meant that Claudio Ranieri couldn’t remain any longer with the Giallorossi. AS Roma lost 5-3 to Inter Milan, 2-0 to Napoli, 3-2 to Shakhtar Donetsk and 4-3 to Genoa lately to complete an awful run of results since the start of February.

On Sunday, AS Roma recorded one of their worst defeats – not in terms of its goal margin, but in terms of its events. The Italian giants were 3-0 up against Genoa after 51 minutes but a brace from both Palacio and Paloschi stunned the Giallorossi as Claudio Ranieri could only watch his side in disgrace and frustration.

Earlier on, reports from Italy claimed that the club’s board were looking to review Ranieri’s future on Monday. But following Roma’s unthinkable loss, the former Chelsea manager decided to resign immediately. ANSA quoted him as saying:

“I always tried to think in the best interests of the team. After a match like today's, I think it's the fair thing to do to send a sign.

“When the final whistle sounded, I went into the locker room to thank the team, and I decided to resign. I hope that this decision helps to encourage the squad.”

So Claudio Ranieri has resigned as AS Roma’s manager – leaving them eighth in the Italian Serie A table. Meanwhile, Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport suggests that Carlo Ancelotti is the hottest name on AS Roma’s radar.

According to their claims, the ex-Milan manager could be at the Stadio Olimpico as early as next summer. But with the Blues’ recent FA Cup fiasco, the very near future of Ancelotti may seem uncertain. AS Roma will reveal Claudio Ranieri’s successor on Monday.
