Klopp praises Alisson after game-winning save

Klopp shares colorful insight about Alisson after game-winning save

December 11, 2018 By Oscar Rojas
The German manager was ecstatic as Liverpool clinched a spot in the final 16 teams of the UEFA Champions League.

Alisson's transfer from Roma to Liverpool was the most expensive for a goalkeeper, until Chelsea beat that number when they signed Kepa. The Brazilian goalie made sure all the money Liverpool paid for him was well spent today, as he made a crucial save to lead Liverpool past Napoli in the Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

Coach Jürgen Klopp admitted being amazed by the South American's skills, but he also used his pupil's performance to hit back at his critics, who back in the day slammed him for paying more money for a goalkeeper than anyone in history.

"If I knew Alisson was this good - I would have paid double. It wasn't only the save, but yes, that was truly outstanding. I have no words for it. That was the lifesaver tonight. He had a lot of things to do tonight but how cool and calm he was says a lot." Klopp said in the post-match interview.

Even if Alisson's save was the true game changer, Klopp believes that his side should have locked the game away way before the final minutes, when Alisson's reaction kept the ball away from his net.

"Yes we could have scored more. The most diff period was just after the 1-0. That made the game intense. We knew we could not change the tactics. After 65 minutes it was really wild, counter and counter without finishing. I am really proud of what the boys did tonight," Klopp added.

Now, Liverpool will have to wait for Monday's draw to learn about their fate. Full of confidence, the German boss denied being worried about the possibility of facing either Real Madrid or Barcelona in the Round of 16.

"Now we have a tough opponent in the next round? Until 7.55 tonight I wasn't sure we would even be in the draw. I don't care who we draw," Klopp concluded.
