The Argentine will be in charge of the Spanish giants until 2021.

Real Madrid officially announced the appointment of Santiago Solari as the club's permanent head coach on Tuesday. The 42-year-old, having replaced Julen Lopetegui as interim manager, will be in charge until June 2021.

A brief statement on the club's website read: "The board of directors of Real Madrid CF, which met today, 13 November 2018, has agreed to appoint Santiago Solari as first-team coach until 30 June 2021."

Following his promotion from Real Madrid Castilla, Santiago Solari has overseen four successive victories as the senior team boss. The former Galactico's first test was in the Copa Del Rey against UD Melilla where his side run off with an emphatic 4-0 victory.

This was subsequently followed by a 2-0 win over Real Valladolid and a 4-2 victory against Celta Vigo over the weekend. In-between, he led Los Blancos to a cruising 5-0 away triumph in the UEFA Champions League against Viktoria Plzen.

Real Madrid was forced to make the decision about Santiago Solari's appointment because the Spanish league's regulations deter interim coaches from staying in the position for more than two weeks. This means that Los Blancos had to either hand him the role on a permanent basis or find someone else before the end of Tuesday.

Momentarily, last season's Champions League winners Real are four points adrift leaders Barcelona in the LaLiga table.
