The Argentine’s goal aided Manchester City to move 12 points ahead of its city rivals.

Sergio Aguero's rifling shot in the 48th minute was enough to make him the joint-top scorer of the Manchester derby alongside Manchester United's former striker Wayne Rooney. The 30-year-old forward, once again, proved to be a thorn in the side of the Red Devils with his consistent involvement in Manchester City's attack in Sunday's epic clash.

The Citizens' cruising ship was steadily steered on course with David Silva grabbing the game's opener in the 12 minutes. The Spaniard made no error of a pass from his namesake Bernardo to get his third consecutive goal at the Etihad for the first time in his career.

Sergio Aguero was subsequently called into action just three minutes into the second half. The former Atletico Madrid ace, following an exchange of passes with Riyad Mahrez in United's penalty area, sent a screamer past David Gea to increase Manchester City's advantage to two.

As a result, he took his goal tally in the Manchester derby in the Premier League to eight, tying with Wayne Rooney in the process. Ilkay Gundogan, who replaced Aguero in the 75th-minute ensured that his side maintained a two-goal advantage by netting in the 86th-minute with another assist from Bernardo Silva.

This came after Anthony Martial had scored his sixth Premier League goal in five appearances from the penalty spot which came as a result of a foul on Romelu Lukaku by Ederson.

Sergio Aguero took to his Twitter page to tweet a congratulatory message to his fans and teammates following Sunday's feat.
