DFB Pokal second round preview

DFB Pokal second round: TV listings, full fixtures including BVB vs Union Berlin

October 31, 2018 By Michelle Bonsu
LiveSoccerTV's match overview provides info to catch the DFB Pokal second round featuring Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Moenchengladbach, and more starting from October 30.

Key match #1 - BVB vs Union Berlin

After stumbling to a draw at the weekend, Borussia Dortmund's lead at the top of the Bundesliga has now been cut to just two points as Bayern have roared to life yet again. It seems like the same story is set to unfold unfortunately for die Schwarzgelben, who were once enjoying a more comfortable margin but now are certainly growing more anxious with die Roten breathing down their necks.

They will have to put aside the frustration from their weekend draw aside as they welcome second-tier side Union Berlin to Signal Iduna Park. The minnows, naturally, will be hoping to stage an upset here, but with Dortmund being unbeaten in 15 of their last 16 DFB Pokal games, it goes without saying that die Schwarzgelben are expected to come out on top here.

Key match #2 - Köln vs Schalke

Last season, Köln suffered a humiliating relegation to the 2.Bundesliga after finishing 18th in the top tier, and they will now be hosting Schalke, who have had a torrid time themselves so far in the top flight this season. The visitors come into this game sitting in 15th spot and are just two points away from the drop zone. That being said, Schalke have won five of their last six DFB Pokal matches and are unbeaten in five of their last six meetings with Koln across all competitions. Will they be able to at least use this cup competition to redeem themselves after a bad start to the Bundesliga campaign, or will Köln now in the second tier, heap more misery on them?

Key match #3 - Borussia M'gladbach vs Bayer Leverkusen

This game will be especially interesting for German football fans as it pits two Bundesliga sides against each other. Of the two, though, it's Gladbach who are having the much better campaign so far. Despite coming into this game off the back of a 3-1 loss to Freiburg, they sit in third place in the league, just two points behind second-placed Bayern Munich.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen crushed Werder Bremen 6-2 last weekend to finally end their three game winless run, but they're still in the bottom half of the table. Will the visitors be able to use that resounding win as a spring board against a Gladbach side who have been quite impressive this season? Both teams have strong records in the DFB Pokal. Gladbach come into this match having lost just two of their last 24 DFB Pokal games, while Leverkusen are undefeated in 18 of their last 20 DFB Pokal ties.
