The idea of having an award named after the Argentine striker would be intended to praise the antics of 'the best player in history', according to Javier Tebas.

La Liga's president Javier Tebas has always been linked to Real Madrid, especially since he declared his "love" for Los Blancos years ago. However, the chairman of the Spanish top flight came forward to propose an award to the most valuable player of the season which would be named after Lionel Messi.

Speaking in an interview with Goal, Tebas admitted that having a trophy with Messi's name on it would be ideal, mainly due to the fact that he considers "La Pulga" will be the best player in football history.

"We should think about it. I think Messi will be the greatest footballer in history, he can do it all. He's been playing here since the youth categories, he always gives 110% and he never stops. It would be a great idea to have an MVP award, and it should be named after Messi," Tebas said.

Messi is La Liga's top scorer and has been widely praised by fans throughout Spanish territory. The idea of naming this award after the Argentine footballer comes from the current awards given out by Spanish newspaper Marca, which gives out awards named after footballers each season.

"Each season we have the Pichichi, the Zarra and the Zamora trophies. Having a trophy given out to the best player of the season with Messi's name on it seems as a fantastic idea," Tebas added.

The award would be created and handed out once Messi leaves professional football, according to Tebas. While La Liga's president has come up with some interesting ideas, let's see how the Spanish football community reacts to this proposition.
