Pochettino frustrated by manner Tottenham conceded goal vs Brighton

September 22, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Mauricio Pochettino has voiced his dissatisfaction with the manner in which his team conceded in Saturday's Premier League game against Brighton.

Having failed to secure wins over Watford, Liverpool, and Inter Milan, Spurs registered its first win in September against Brighton and Hove Albion away to the Amex on Saturday. Marksman Harry Kane ended his five-game scoreless run by giving his side the lead from the penalty spot before the end of the first-half.

In-form Erik Lamela then provided the cushion 14 minutes from full-time. Tottenham, however, endured a mild scare with the host pulling one back via Anthony Knockaert in the 93rd minute.

Although it was virtually too little too late for a probable upset to follow, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was particular unhappy about his side conceding the goal. After commending his side for the day's job, the Argentinian manager highlighted the need for his men to stay vigilant and insisted on working with them to prevent goals of such sort being scored.

"What's important for us is the victory," Pochettino told BBC Sport after Saturday's win.

"I am happy because the three points was so important for us.

"We deserved to win. Brighton is an aggressive team and they work so hard but I think we worked hard too.

"I am happy with the three points but more with the performance and the reaction.

"For everyone who watched the game, they were wondering what we were doing. The way we conceded was crazy. One minute from the end, we should be more vigilant and focused.

"To allow them in that position, it is painful to concede. We won but need to work and realise we cannot concede this type of goal."
