Kaká snubs Messi and CR7 in Ballon D'Or race

Kaká snubs Messi AND Cristiano Ronaldo as Ballon D'Or contenders

August 22, 2018 By Oscar Rojas
The last man to win the award before the two footballers shared the prize for ten years believes it's time for a different winner.

Kaká has frequently been named as the last player to win the Ballon D'Or before Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi established their dominance over the trophy with five wins apiece. Today, the Brazilian ace predicted that, after a long decade, it's time for a new player to win this coveted award.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Milan and Real Madrid footballer that won this award in 2008 named his two top candidates that could end the dominance established by these footballers.

"The man that makes things happen is Modric. He had amazing results, winning the UEFA Champions League for a third time and reaching the World Cup final. He's the man that dominates the game. The other one is Mbappé, he's really strong and he has his whole career in front of him, which means he could dominate the game for years and years to come," Kaká stated.

"Juventus may find it hard to extend their Serie A dominance" - Kaká

The former footballer spoke about the league where he experienced his best years as a pro: Serie A. According to Kaká, things will not be as easy as they look for Juventus to win one more Scudetto in a row.

"Yes, Juventus may be deemed as the favorite to win the title, but this is a new Serie A. Anything can happen, and one of those teams that can imagine great things is Milan," the former player stated.

Then, Kaká spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival to the competition, which will become a turning point in the competition due to the Portuguese ace's relevance.

"It's a great thing to have him playing in the Italian top flight. He brings sponsorship deals, worldwide media attention and visibility to this competition. Furthermore, Cristiano's playing style will make Italian football different, and it will benefit all teams, not only Juventus," Kaká added.
