One English giant made contact with Los Blancos but was met with an unwanted response.

Mateo Kovacic is one of many talented names being linked with a move to the Premier League. The Croatian has been tipped with a move away from Real Madrid in search for more playing time.

The midfielder had played a strategic role in Los Blancos’ success during Zinedine Zidane’s reign, but he found a starting XI role hard to come by mainly due to the presence of Casemiro. Furthermore, the player revealed his desire to play more whether at the Bernabeu or elsewhere, putting his suitors on alert.

Arsenal has been linked with 24-year-old, who played a role in his national team’s impressive World Cup campaign.  Man City is also reportedly interested in Kovacic after missing out on Jorginho, but the Daily Mail claims that Chelsea made the first move and made contact with the Champions League holder.

Unfortunately for the Blues, Real Madrid relayed their unwillingness to sell the midfielder. This will also come as a blow for Man United, as Mourinho is interested in landing the Croat.

Maurizio Sarri is keen on adding another name to their midfielder for the upcoming season to go alongside with the Jorginho signing. Aaron Ramsey is one a man being eyed at Stamford Bridge but the Italian tactician has turned to Kovacic as a replacement for the Welshman.

Luring Mateo away from the Spanish capital could prove difficult despite the player’s desire to leave. Whether Chelsea will return for Kovacic or go all our on Ramsey remains to be seen.
