The first game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup had excitement, unfortunate injuries, and even unexpected heroes.
The tournament kicked off with a bang, and Russia blasted the Saudi Arabian defense with a five-goal display in the opening match of the competition.
One of those unexpected heroes came in from the bench during the first half, and ended up earning Man of the Match honors. Super sub Denis Cheryshev scored a beautiful brace for Russia, improving their chances of making it past the Group Stage for the first time since they became an independent country.
Cheryshev stepped in due to Alan Dzagoev's untimely injury, making his presence felt with a stunning ball control and strike for his first goal of the evening.

As the game neared its end, Cheryshev took advantage of a through ball to score a delightful goal with the outer side of his left boot, placing the ball into the top left hand corner of Al-Mayouf's net.
How did Cheryshev follow up a beautiful first goal?
