Zidane makes admission about France job

Zidane denies quitting Real Madrid to take over France national team

June 12, 2018 By Ali M.
The former Real Madrid also opened up about his future plans.

Zinedine Zidane is a legend of the game, both as a player and a manager, having won everything before retirement to then lead Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League titles as a gaffer. As a result, it comes as little surprise to see the icon be linked with the France national team job.

Currently, Les Bleus is led by Didier Deschamps, who is preparing the team for the upcoming World Cup. The European giant is one of the favorites to win in Russia due to their young, talented squad. A disappointing campaign, though, will have fans calling for another coach.

Zizou, having quit Los Blancos, is a free agent and would thus be a no-brainer. However, the 1998 World Cup winner insists his reason for leaving Santiago Bernabeu was not the replace Deschamps.

Speaking to TF1, the 45-year-old revealed that his only intention right now is to get behind Deschamps and his squad for the upcoming tournament. He said: “The most important thing is to support the team of France.

"I didn't stop to want to take the team of France. I stopped to make a parenthesis.

"I'm behind the French team. We want it to bring back a second title."

Regardless of his statement, Zidane did not completely rule out taking over the national side. This means France fans might one day see the legendary midfielder coaching Les Bleus.

Nonetheless, that might not happen in the foreseeable future, as the former Real Madrid tactician revealed that he is enjoying his break and is yet to make a decision about what to do next. He has been linked with a mega-money move to the Middle East to take over the Qatar national team, but Zidane himself insisted that he has not identified his next job.

As for France, their focus will only be on the World Cup. With the likes of Griezmann, Mbappe, and Dembele in their ranks; they have a fair chance of going all the way. The European giant begins their campaign against Australia on the 16th before locking horns with Group C rivals Peru and Denmark.
