The transfer battle is over and Arsene Wenger has won it. Arsenal’s Carlos Vela, who was very likely to land in Valencia, remains in England as West Brom have signed him on a loan deal.
On Friday, West Bromwich Albion’s technical and sporting director Dan Ashworth explained how his club defeated Vela hunters Valencia and Chievo Verona after Bolton dropped out of the transfer race. Ashworth gladly told reporters as he commented on West Brom’s latest achievement on the transfer market.

“It has been well documented that Arsenal were keen on Carlos Vela staying in this country and in the Premier League.

“But I think that a key factor was that they looked favourably on our style of play and performances this season.

“Arsenal and Carlos Vela had a lot of options, and I am delighted that both the club and the player have chosen us.”

West Bromwich Albion are currently 16th in the English Premier League and it will be interesting to see how Vela will contribute in helping the club avoid relegation. The loan contract is set to expire at the end of the season – after which Carlos Vela is expected to return at Arsenal.
