Preview

Wolfsburg had a nightmare of a season last term and will be desperate to avoid a further humiliating relegation to the 2.Bundesliga. German football fans already saw Hamburg relegated for the first time since 1963, so really, anything is possible. The hosts did pick up a 4-1 win over Cologne to keep themselves in 16th spot, but earned a miserable 33 points over the course of the season, which is their worst ever total in a top flight campaign. They do have something going in their favor, however: In the last 19 relegation play-offs, a Bundesliga club have prevailed in 14 of those, including seven of the last eight.

However, Kiel won't be pushovers - not by a long-shot. They are aiming to secure promotion for the first time, having earned promotion from the third tier last season. If that story sound familiar, it certainly is, as RB Leipzig did the same thing not too long ago and have done well since bursting onto the Bundesliga scene, even competing in the Champions League for the first time this term.
