Match Facts & Stats

  • England's record against Italy is W8 D7 L11
  • The Three Lions last beat the Azzurri on August 15, 2012
  • Since then they lost 2-1 to them at the World Cup and drew them 1-1 in an international friendly on March 2015
  • Italy have failed to score in their last four games
  • The last time they netted was in a 1-1 draw with Macedonia on October 6, 2017
  • England are unbeaten in their last eight matches
  • They have also kept clean sheets in their last five games (Slovenia, Lithuania, Germany, Brazil, and the Netherlands)

England come into this game having secured a narrow 1-0 win over Netherlands, thanks to Jesse Lingard's goal. The Three Lions haven't played the most entertaining football, but under Gareth Southgate they have been largely solid and are slowly growing in confidence leading up to this summer's World Cup in Russia.

Given that this is a friendly, Southgate will definitely rotate his squad, so fans could see the likes of Jamie Vardy, Eric Dier, and Dele Alli all feature from the start after the trip came on as subsitutes during last weekend's match against the Oranje.

As for Italy, they will be missing Giorgio Chiellini due to injury. The Azzurri were beaten 2-0 by Argentina last Friday, and interim boss Luigi Di Biagio could also make some changes for this match. Although the four-time World Cup champions are missing out on the big event in Russia, they will be keen on trying to get back on the right foot as they take on a familiar opponent this Tuesday.
