Both countries have qualified for the World Cup in Russia and, as a result, will aim to get their respective squads sorted quickly with the tournament fast approaching. Portugal enjoyed a stellar campaign in the qualifiers to usurp the likes of Switzerland and Faroe Island while walking away with huge score lines in the process.

Portugal won all the five matches they played in front of their fans in the World Cup qualifiers and averaged four goals per game in the process. On the away front, the case was almost the same but for the 2-0 defeat in the opening game against Switzerland.

All-in-all skipper of the side, Cristiano Ronaldo, played an immense role in steering the Selecao to the World Cup as he was the top-goalscorer in the qualifiers on the European front. The 32-year-old forward is currently enjoying a form of his life, having scored a staggering 21 goals in his last 13 games across all competitions. The Real Madrid man, subsequently, tops the list of players with the most goals in 2018. 

Nonetheless, he will lead his side to come up against Egypt who boasts of one player that has taken the English Premier League by storm – Mohamed Salah. Firstly, the 25-year-old’s penalty goal in the crucial qualifying game against Uganda sealed Egypt’s first qualification to the World Cup in over a quarter of a century.

The Liverpool man has subsequently topped up his feat by putting in Player of the Season-worthy performances for his side in the English top-flight league. With 28 goals in 30 games, the former Chelsea man tops the goalscorers’ leaderboard, and he recently scored four times against Watford to emphasize his ridiculous form. 

In all, Mohamed Salah has scored 36 goals in 41 matches across all competitions. With Cristiano Ronaldo also scoring a poker in his last game prior to the international break, it will be interesting how both star men will fare against each other for their nations.

With regards to meetings between their respective countries, both sides have a win apiece in the two times they’ve met.
