Spalletti wants Icardi's omission from 2018 WC

Inter’s Spalletti wants Icardi omitted from Argentina’s World Cup squad

March 18, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Nerazzuri manager lauded his team after a five-star performance against Sampdoria but finished off with a rather bizarre wish.

Sunday's early kick-off game between Sampdoria and Inter Milan was somewhat an exhibition for the visitors as they cruised to an emphatic 5-0 victory. After Ivan Perisic opened the scoring, it was basically a one-man show for Mauro Icardi who grabbed a poker against his former club in a scintillating fashion.

The Argentine forward bagged a hat-trick in the span of 14 minutes in the first half before adding his fourth -six minutes after the commencement of the second 45 minutes. His incredbile feat subsequently took his goal tally in Serie A to 22 in 24 games.

Speaking to Sky Sport 24 after the game, manager of the 24-year-old forward, Luciano Spalletti, commended his team for their general contribution.

“This performance was due to the team’s attitude, compactness, strength, bump, muscle, and the ability to manage moments. The boys understood when to attack and when to wait.

“We started doing the right things again. There was a lot of awareness in our approach.

"We will return to doing more of these things even after the break."

Spalleti then extended a sarcastic congratulatory message to head coach of the Argentina national team, Jorge Sampaoli, for leaving the in-form Mauro Icardi out of his squad for the upcoming international break.

"Bravo Sampaoli, I hope you always leave Icardi available to me.

"If you do not include him for the World Cup, he will be motivated to prove to Sampaoli that he has made a mistake and hopefully play better".

A long standing fiasco between Icardi and Lionel Messi’s close friend, Maxi Lopez, has caused the Inter Milan forward to be exiled from the national team despite his steady up rise to world-class status.
