The possibility of having all major tournaments in England stopping during the first week of February is closer than ever.

Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola agreed months ago about the English Premier League's need to add a winter break to its schedule. It seems that the FA didn't turn a deaf ear to that suggestion, as a winter break could soon be implemented in one of the top leagues in the world.

Reports by many sources, including BBC, suggest that the Football Association, the English Football League and the English Premier League are working out a winter break that would grant footballers up to 13 days of rest.

The Premier League is the only one of Europe's top 5 leagues that has refused to let any of their players rest during winter months, packing their schedules with up to 6 games in a 19-day lapse. Other leagues such as the Bundesliga enter an almost one-month hiatus in December, while the Spanish league has given their teams at least one week to recharge their batteries.

According to BBC's report on this subject, the break would take place on the first weeks of February, and the 2019-2020 season would be the first season to have the winter break. If this decision stands, the fifth round of the FA Cup would take place in mid-week. Furthermore, the tournament would be adapted to the new calendar, eliminating replays to allow the break to take place.
