Artist creates Camp Nou using bamboo

Haitian artist creates Nou Camp Nou and Bernabeu using bamboo

January 17, 2018 By Ali M.
It's two of the most famous football stadiums as you've never seen them before.

Camp Nou is one of the most iconic club stadiums in the world. It is the largest field in both Spain and Europe and ranks third in the globe. Furthermore, the fact that it is the home ground to one of the biggest clubs on Earth makes this arena more revered.

This has led to one Haitian artist, also a fan of the Catalan giant, to recreate the stadium. The man’s choice of material was what made him stand out, as he used bamboo to make a model of the Blaugrana’s fortress.

An overhanging roof can be seen across his replica, which is a recreation of Nou Camp Nou – a remodeling of the current ground. The new look should be completed by the 2020/21 season.

The artist is Jean Mackenson, a 32-year-old Barcelona fan from Haiti. He spoke exclusively to Live Soccer TV, admitting that he completed this piece despite being unable to work with great tools.

As a result, Mackenson revealed that it took him six months to complete this masterpiece. What drove him to see it through was his unmatched love for the Catalan giant.

“My love for football and that of most Haitians for FC Barcelona pushed me to realize [my dream of completing] the stadium of Camp Nou.

“Never having been to art school, I realized this work [of art] with my personal intelligence, [given to me] by the grace of God, using bamboo, painting, etc.”

He added: “My dream is to present the stadium made of bamboo at Camp Nou.”

Mackenson explained why he desires to present his work to the club, saying: “I wish from the bottom of my heart to share the project with the club as a sign of respect for what it represents in the world, and more specifically for me and for Haiti.”

Mackenson has been a fan of the Blaugrana for 14 years, with his love for Barcelona beginning back in 2004. Ronaldinho was the top player at Camp Nou back then, but it is the style of play of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez that appeals most to the Haitian.

Despite being a Barcelona fan, Mackenson’s love and passion for his unique art did not stop him from creating Santiago Bernabeu, the home ground of bitter rival Real Madrid, using the same material: bamboo. The result was just as spot-on as the previous one.

The Bernabeu has been a place where Messi and Co. have enjoyed success in El Clasico in recent seasons. Barcelona's last game of 2017 saw them travel to Los Blancos en route to a 3-0 victory, with the stadium later being labeled as the Catalan club's second training ground. Now, Blaugrana fan Jean Mackenson can claim to own Real Madrid's arena in his own way.
