Real Madrid won’t spend during the January transfer window. News from Spain reveals that Jose Mourinho has been told by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to forget about signing a striker this month.
Earlier on Wednesday, Jose Mourinho hinted at the impossibility of working with new players throughout the current transfer period. In an interview with reporters, the Real Madrid coach explained with quite a lot of details:

“I’m very hopeful [of signing a new striker to replace the injured Gonzalo Higuain] but I don’t think that I’ll get anybody. I talked to the president a couple of days ago and so far... nothing.

“After last year’s investments, Real Madrid want to continue but it can’t be any player. I get paid to work and I try to make the most of the players that I have at my disposal.

“There are many very good players, but unfortunately, there’s only one striker that is fit in our squad – and that is Karim Benzemea.

“As far as I’m concerned, talks will continue until the end of January because doors remain open until then. However, this is the group that will continue fighting until the end of the season.”

Despite Mourinho’s recent claims, rumours about Los Blancos’ preparing to bring a player – and a striker in particular – haven’t stopped surfacing in the news. Lately, there were speculations that Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor could be on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu. Meanwhile, some also expect Real Madrid to make a bid for Manchester United’s rising star Chicharito.

But, with Florentino Perez’s recent declaration, Jose Mourinho and the public can apparently forget about seeing a striker land at Real Madrid during the January transfer window. According to Spanish media Marca, the club president stated:

“We will not sign a striker.”

Not even Gonzalo Higuain’s absence and Karim Benzema’s unimpressive and inconsistent form seem enough to convince Perez of thinking otherwise. Real Madrid will have to rely on stars such as prolific goal scorer Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Özil and Angel Di Maria as the January transfer window will pass by without any new name added to the club’s squad list.

On Sunday, Real Madrid will face Villarreal in yet another crucial match in La Liga. This encounter will give Jose Mourinho the chance to prove that he can cope with the same group of players as Real Madrid may not welcome any transfer signings in January.
