Match Facts & Stats

  • Turkey have never beaten Croatia in eight prior attempts
  • The Vatreni have a record of W3 D5 against Turkey
  • This will be their second WC qualifying meeting

Here's how things look in group I ahead of the match

Although they lost 2-0 to Ukraine, Turkey aren't out of the running for second place. However, they will have to try to overcome a frustrating record against Croatia, which will be much easier said than done, as to date, they have never beaten the Vatreni. The best result they have ever earned was a 1-1 draw during a World Cup qualifier last year, and they will have to better that in order to try to pull level with Ukraine in second spot.

Given that Iceland ended up losing to an already eliminated Finland, things in Group I are a lot closer in the race for second. Meanwhile, Croatia saw their game against Kosovo drag on for a lot longer than expected. Due to bad weather, the game was halted, then restarted, and it took a late goal to eventually decide proceedings. Fatigue, thus, could play a part in this match as they are coming into this game with one day less rest than their opponents and that's something that Turkey will be hoping to exploit as they aim to recover from a surprise loss on matchday seven. Nonetheless, Croatia have quite a few star players in their ranks and this arguably will represent a very tough task for the hosts.
