Here's a look at how things are shaping up ahead of matchday ten:

Group A: South Korea still hoping to pull away from chasing pack...but have Syria and Uzbekistan on their tails

With a two points lead oer the chasing pack, South Korea are in a good position to secure a runners-up spot in Group A. Although they fumbled a great chance to grab three points, which would have seen them move to 16, they were given a lifeline as Uzbekistan ended up losing to China. Still, their scoreless stalemate against Iran, who had already qualified and thus had nothing much to play for is a major source of concern as they were playing at home and that really was likely their best opportunity to ensure they put more distance between themselves and the chasing pack.

However, the Taegeuk Warriors have another excellent opportunity to get back on track. For starters, they have a very strong record against Uzbekistan. Out of their 14 meetings, they have won ten, drawn three, and lost just once. Furthermore, they have made nine appearances at World Cups, whilst their upcoming hosts are hoping to make their first ever showing, but obviously, giving how well Uzbekistan have done thus far in this group, they obviously won't be taking that game too lightly.

Group B: Australia hoping to join Japan, but Saudi Arabia not giving up hope

Meanwhile, Japan secured their spot at the 2018 World Cup thanks to a solid 2-0 win over Australia, but all hope is not lost for the Socceroos. However, they now face a crush clash against Saudi Arabia, who like them, are tied on 16 points, but sit ahead in second thanks to their superior goal difference. Australia have faced Saudi Arabia eight times, with a record of five wins, two draws, and just one loss.

Still, both teams have appeared at four World Cups and Saudi Arabia managed to battle back to secure a 2-2 draw in their last meeting, so this could indeed be a tricky fixture ahead for Australia. As such, it will be very interesting to see who secures that last automatic spot, and who ends up heading into round four to feature in the two-legged play-offs next month.
